PRP, or platelet-rich plasma is non-surgical skin rejuvenation treatment that uses your own blood to promote skin regeneration naturally. Also dubbed the “ Vampire facial” , PRP works by stimulating the skin’s natural healing response to produce collagen and elastin which in turn improves skin quality, reduce fine lines, wrinkles, pigmentation, scarring, pores and other signs of aging. Outside of skin treatments, PRP is also widely used in sports and medical treatments to aid with healing.
What is the process?
Before the treatment, you will have a face-to-face consultation with a registered health professional to discuss your goals and suitability. The procedure involves a small amount of blood draw, centrifugation to separate the PRP. This platelet rich plasma is then used to treat the areas of concern using direct superficial injections or using microneedling. A treatment session typically takes 30-60 mins, depending on the areas treated. The healing time is around 3-7 days, with a full result developing over 2-6 weeks. For best results, one may require a few treatment sessions.
Who is suitable candidate?
PRP skin treatment is ideal for people who have:
- A preference of natural treatment
- Wrinkles, loss of skin elasticity, pigmentation, other aging related skin concerns
- Scarring including acne scars, pores, uneven skin texture
- Under eye hollowness and dark circles
- Rejuvenation
- As an adjunct to complement other aesthetic treatments
Are there any risks and contraindication?
PRP skin treatment is considered safe as it uses your own blood. Temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, lumps and bruising can occur. In rare cases, infection and skin discolouration may occur.
PRP skin treatment is not recommended if there is an active infection or skin disease in the areas to be treated, in individuals with a known blood disorder or platelet dysfunction, cancer, auto immune disease, pregnant or breastfeeding or unmanaged medical condition.
